Harts and Horns Thanks – From Alison Wodehalle, Co-Event Steward

Greetings!

Yesterday was the 3rd annual Harts and Horns and it was a fabulous time with good friends and good food. We ran three tournaments, Rattan, Rapier, and Games, and have a new champion to represent us in each area. Egil Badhands is our new Rattan champion. James O’Galleghure is our new Rapier Champion. And Breezy won the Games Tournament, with this being her first event. Talan Gwyllt was given a token, being recommended by Dabid Rocair, for his demonstrating great courtesy and chivalry on the list field. Vivat! To our newest champions!

Events like this do not happen without hard work and working together to make a day that can all can enjoy. I would like to note that my co-autocrat, Mage Cunningghame called Blue was stepping up for the first time as an autocrat, and has definitely done an amazing job these last few weeks with pulling together details needed to make the event run smoothly, and initiating tasks without needing to asked. It was a joy to work with her!

The cooks may always be some of the hardest working people at any event, and the least seen because they are in the kitchen. This event had an amazing team of Milissent de Haithwaite and Faelan Sinnoch. Milissent is no stranger to SCA kitchens having worked in many feast kitchens and been head cook for many hearty dayboards. She is well known for being able to accommodate allergies with delicious alternative ingredients. Faelan is an experienced cook, but this is their first SCA feast to cook for and they have done an amazing job. There were more wonderful people who spent the day in the kitchen cooking, chopping, grilling, and cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. I saw Cassandra, Bella, Julia, Arpad, and a man whose name I did not get. Brandr took it on himself to take over refreshing the drinks and Elevensies area, making fresh coffee throughout the morning, making lemonade and iced tea, and refreshing the water jugs as needed. I can’t thank them enough for giving us this fabulous feast.

Next up, we had fighting in the morning. And we had our own Hartshorn-dale list poles for the first time in our blue and yellow colors made by Wormwood over the last several months, testing designs, cutting wood, painting, and creating a 3d printed cap that will support the rope. Wormwood also helped with set-up, tear-down and MoL throughout the day. The lady who ran the MoL table was Lu An-Hua, and we are very grateful to her for coming out and making it possible to run our tournaments. We also had our out-going champs and our MiC’s who designed and ran the tourneys, Talley (outgoing rapier champ), Dabid (outgoing rattan champ), and Berk (rattan MiC), and Melchoir (rapier MiC). And as a surprise to all, Talley had worked with artisans to create additional bling for the new rapier champ which included a dagger and a lovely new baldric.

Gate was run by Ivette who organized all the waivers, and list of pre-registered people prior to the event. On site Ivette was assisted by Bella, Britt, Eaj, Judith, and Rosie. The event does not run with Gate, and this important role was well done by these volunteers

Indoors we had a few things going on at the same time as the tourneys. Elizabet Marshall ran the annual John Marshall atte Ford food competition which was Cheese this year. Violet won the competition, though the other two competitors made the choice difficult for the judges. Aislinn ran the A&S display, and we had 3 people participate. Jacqueline ran the Renaissance Rummage sale. There were many donations, and Jacqueline set up shop with her ravens keeping watch over the merchandise. Lillia set up the Heraldic Consultation area and Scolastica la souriete joined her both bringing their expertise, books and electronic tools to help anyone looking for help with name and/or device. Each of these things, while the mention seems short, meant that these folks spent time preparing and planning, organizing papers, documents, prizes, etc to make this part of the event viable and a worthwhile contribution to making Harts and Horns a richer experience for everyone.

Following feast the activities were: dancing organized by Duchess Diana, and taught by several members of Hartshorn-dale; and Games Tournament run by Hrothgierr. Dancing had a couple dozen people participating. It was around a dozen people who participated with the Games. Again, each of these people spent time preparing for their part of the event and enriching all of us by their service.

So many people helped with cleaning and arranging chairs and tables at the event that I know I cannot possibly name everyone and I am truly sorry about that. Some of the folks I remember helping Friday night, Saturday before and after feast, and at the end of the event clean up are, in no particular order: James, Adelina, David Utz, Wormwood, Berkhommer, Brandr, Talan, Milissent, Faelan, Hrothgeirr, Arpad, Julia, Bella, Cassandra, Breezy, Mario, and many others!

Please forgive me if I failed to mention you, and send us a note. Your service is very appreciated, and I apologize in advance.

 Alison Wodehalle, co-event steward

Additional Thanks to Kevin for helping in the kitchen and cooking the sausage.

Harts and Horns Thanks – From Milissent de Haithwaite

Yesterday I cooked a feast for an SCA event. I have not done this in many years due to lots of circumstances. I had a wonderful co feast planner is Fáelán Sinnoch.

Thank you to Paula Lim Brown and family, David Szent-Györgyi and Julia for all the help with cooking. If I forgot anyone it is not intentional.

Thank you to Brendan Weir for brewing the coffee all day, making sure there were pitchers of water, making the iced tea and lemonade for the feast and making a run to the store for more apples.

My biggest thanks goes to Beverly Williams for doing the dishes all day and making sure that there was not a huge pile at the end of the event.

I do not remember the name of the young lady that cut the bread and helped put the dishes away after feast- you were a big help.

Harts and Horns Thanks – From James O’Galleghure, Seneschal

On Saturday we held our annual autumn event, Harts & Horns. We have a great site with lots of room and the cheap rental price allows us to experiment a little. Yesterday’s experiment was holding a Feast early at 14:00 with dancing, games and cookie-decorating afterwards. Overall, I think this worked out pretty great.

Events of course don’t happen without our volunteers. So thanks to THL Alison Wodehall our veteran Event Steward and Lady Mage Cunningghame who really shined Co-Stewarding her first event!

In a similar dynamic, one of our long-time Feast-o-crats Lady Milissent de Haithwaite with help of first time Co-Feast Noble Fáelán knocked out a great feast that had a bit of something for everyone.

Thanks to Lady Aislinn Ysobel d’Argentan for running the A&S display and hangout area. Thanks to Dame Elizabet Marshall for holding the cheese competition in honor of her late husband John Marshal. (The next one will be bread-making by the way.)          Thanks to our marshal staff; Lü An-Hua and THL Tomas Wormwood for Ministering the Lists, Don Melchior Kriebel our marshal of fence and outgoing Champion Baron Eliayahu Al-Talhi (whose lady Baroness Maria Charries made some lovely new regalia), to our armored marshal THL Berkhommer von Nuremberg and outgoing Champion Dabid Rocair. Tomas also spent the last few months making lovely new list poles for the event which looked great!
Dame Lillia de Vaux ran a Heraldic Consult Table, Admiral Jacqueline Cross distributed various goods at the Rummage Sale and Hróðgeirr our Game Master (The Goose Game is silly fun).
And of course thanks to the crew who ran Gate, Lady Ivette of Worcester, Lady Janette Colquhoun, Lady Brit Taillyell, Mistress Judith the Confused, and Lady Bella Tessitore. Our awesome site tokens were 3D printed by Lord Brandr Bjorndall.

If I missed anyone please let me know!

[Thanks to Duchess Diana for running dance! Thanks to Kathryn, David, Arpad and Sarah who taught the dances!!! Vivat!!!]

Yours In Service,James O’Galleghure Seneschal of Hartshorn-dale
